Goldfish tend to grow big so would be best suited to a large aquarium. However, some decide to start small and upgrade the aquarium as the fish grows. We do small starter kits for goldfish but do recommend that as they grow bigger, they are rehoused in a larger aquarium. What fish can I put in my tank if I don’t have a heater?
Snails make a good clean up crew. It shouldn't hurt anything to add then to your goldfish tank. I'm not sure if goldfish would eat them or not but you can try a few to see. If they get out of hand you can always feed the excess snails to your loaches.

Step 1 Take your rock out of your tank, dip it in the bucket of water and shake well. Then take your old toothbrush and scrub your rock until all the algae is off. Step 2 Once the rock is clean then you can put them back in your tank! The clean up crew will help clean all of this up before any fish are added to the tank. It is a good idea to add snails and a hermit crab to begin with as these are great scavengers and will help to clean up up the newly cycled tank. If you intend to add sand sifting inhabitants like star fish then it is a good idea to wait a while until the substrate is more mature.
A good algae eating fish for larger aquariums is the Bristlenose Pleco. Growing up to 15 centimeters in length, these sucker-mouth fish can cover a lot of ground, and can consume a lot of algae. Due to their size, it is often recommended to also include sinking algae pellets into your tank, to make sure they are being fed enough.
Clean-up Crews Do Not Clean (Everything) From Your Tank. A clean-up crew does clean up uneaten food and dead plants, but they do not eat fish poop nor do they replace cleaning your tank yourself. Snails, shrimp, plecos and corydoras, they are all part of the clean-up crew to a lot of people. These are the fish that you add to your aquarium that.
Under Water Dry Zone for Fiddler Crabs: I currently have a 55 gallon fish tank up and running, and needed my 10 gallon fish tank that held my fiddler crabs for something else. Being that fiddler crabs cannot completely live under water and actually need to out of the water, i was left.
Freshwater snails are one of the most common tank mates for cherry shrimp. Frequently introduced into aquariums as part of the clean-up crew that keeps algae, food scraps, and dead matter in check, small freshwater snails can integrate into a bottom feeder community alongside your cherry shrimp without posing a threat to them.
DSIL has a goldfish tank and she seems to 'lose' fish more often than our tropical tank does. I think if a shop encourages you to overstock you should walk out - the one we went to would only sell us a few fish to start with and were quite cautious when we went back for more after the initial 4-5 weeks.
Use a water filter in your goldfish tank. This will greatly increase the time you can go between water changes. Pick a filter designed for the tank size you have. For example, a 10-gallon tank requires a 10-gallon filter. Change the filter cartridge according to the package instructions, and clean the filter itself with warm water every two to three months.

It was a custom made 5x2x2 with a 3ft sump and came as a complete system including all the fish, clean-up crew, live rock (most of which is in my current system) and all the equipment needed to run it. Before that tank I hadn’t even kept a goldfish! That tank did me right up until I created our current tank in 2015. Like most reefers I slowly progressed from fish only to soft corals, then.

That said, you shouldn't need much of a cleanup crew. Goldfish should be on sand, which they are happy to sift through all the time and they will keep it clean. The right sand is no problems, ever and makes a massive difference in the care of the tank. If you are having any algae you probably just need to do more or larger water changes and cut.
